What’s the difference between Paxley eyewear and other brands?

A whole lot. For starters, Paxley frames are ergonomically designed specifically for infants and kids for the best possible fit. They’re also baby-safe, with features such as the SafeBend™ pinchless hinge. Paxley frames are made from high-quality, baby-safe materials that are BPA(bisphenol-A)-free, lead-free, PVC-free and phthalate-free. They are also hypoallergenic, latex-free and do not contain paint or glue. The lenses feature protective Category 3 tinting and most importantly, are level UV-400, which blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers. (This covers all of the harmful UVA and UVB rays.). Paxley lenses are also impact and shatter-resistant.

Why should I buy Paxley Eyewear?

While style is important, the best sunglasses for babies and children protect health and provide protection.
This is why Paxley offers:

  • Substantial coverage around the eyes
  • Comfortable fit engineered for smaller heads
  • Flexible, child-tested frames that can withstand activity
  • Baby-safe materials (BPA-free, Phthalate-free, PVC-free)
  • High level of UVA and UVB protection— UV400 lenses
  • Category 3 gray lenses for high protection with minimal color distortion
  • Impact and shatter-resistant lenses

Construction & Design

What is SafeBend™ technology?

Paxley SafeBend "hinges" are specially engineered to prevent pinching of fingers or clothing. We call it “childreneering”. Most sunglasses are designed with a typical swivel socket hinge, but patent-pending SafeBend technology allows for a nearly 180-degree temple bend ratio without pinching.

Eye Protection

What is UV protection?

UV (Ultraviolet) rays come from the sun, and come in three types: UVA, UVB and UVC (UVC rays do not, however, reach Earth). UV protection is applied to lenses as a coating, and the higher the level of UV blockage, the more protective. While most sunglasses offer at least the basic UV-100 protection, Paxley sunglasses feature optical standard UV-400 lenses which block all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers. (This covers all of the harmful UVA and UVB rays.), which is ideal for young children. Paxley sunglass lenses conform to the British and European safety standard label BS EN 1836:2005/2007, US standard ANSI Z80.3:2001, and the most strict of all, the Australian standard AS/NZS 1067:2003. Paxley lenses are also impact and shatter-resistant.

Does the darkness of tint matter in lenses?

While sunglasses for children abound, a health and safety-conscious pair features optical lenses that are ideal to wear during an infant's or child's development. Paxley lenses have been extensively researched and feature gray tint, which experts say provide the least amount of color distortion. In addition, Paxley lenses are also Category 3 tinted lenses.

Is it necessary to wear sunglasses when it’s not sunny?

During the day, even when it’s overcast, the sun’s rays penetrate through clouds and affect the skin, eyes, and hair. While it may seem like the sun isn’t “out” on a cloudy day, UV rays are still present, and like any other days, are the strongest and most harmful in the afternoon, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m

What is an appropriate age for a child to start wearing sunglasses?

The younger the child is, the more vulnerable their eyes are. Unlike an adult's eye, the lens in a child's eye has almost no protective pigments. A child's crystalline lens is totally transparent with a very large pupil. Children's eyes therefore absorb much more harmful solar radiation than adults. Ideally children should begin wearing sunglasses as early as infancy, but it is generally recommended that newborns and infants under 6 months are not exposed regularly or for any length of time to direct sunlight. Even in the shade, the eyes are exposed to UV rays reflected by the clouds, water, snow, sand and asphalt. Sunglasses are important for eye protection for babies, just as they are for moms and dads!

What kind of protection does Paxley provide?

Paxley sunglasses provide 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays. They feature optical standard UV-400 lenses which block all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers. (This covers all of the harmful UVA and UVB rays.), which is ideal for young children. The lenses have also been rigorously tested and conform to the British and European safety standard label BS EN 1836:2005/2007, US standard ANSI Z80.3:2001, and the most strict of all, the Australian standard AS/NZS 1067:2003. Paxley lenses are also impact and shatter-resistant.

Sizing

How do I select a size?

With our extensive research we sized Paxley sunglasses to fit a variety of head sizes within an age range. Of course, there is no such thing as one size fits all for babies heads, so our age ranges are a recommendation.

We have also added a size charts link to every product in the product detail page. Reference the size charts to help determine your size when ordering. Because sizing will vary between shapes, please use this chart as a general guide to compare the various size scales. If you are between sizes or need assistance selecting the proper size, please contact Customer Care at customercare@paxleyshop.com.
